Garden Upgrade

Our hydroponic garden has recently gotten an upgrade! Our ground cover was about 7 years old and needed to be replaced. We moved 48 stacks and replaced the ground cover. Everything was put back and now we are ready to plant more plants in our hydroponic stacks. Thank you to Duke Energy for providing the grant funding for this project Thank you to Polk Education Foundation for working with our school to help us with this challenge. Farmer John from HydroHarvest Farms was here to oversee the project. The students have been working so hard, even some former Bethune students helped. We will post new pictures when our veggies are growing.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Volunteer Application Fee

In order to volunteer and chaperone field trips, you must be an approved volunteer. We depend on our valuable school volunteers at Bethune Academy. Please apply now if you plan to attend any field trips or volunteer on campus.  Application: https://polkschoolsfl.com/getinvolved/

The price for Polk County Public Schools volunteer background checks was scheduled to increase from $25 to $40. However, the Polk County School Board has decided that the fee to cover volunteers’ background checks, as well as their badge and handbook, will remain $25 through the end of the calendar year.

Polk County Public Schools will be using more extensive volunteer background checks as part of our security measures to protect students and staff. The district will incur an additional charge for the statewide and national background checks.

Through the end of 2018, the cost to volunteers will remain $25. We are exploring other funding sources to help offset the cost of background screening for volunteers on an ongoing basis. More information will follow.
