The Great American Teach-In is an annual event coordinated by the Polk County Public Schools’ Department of Public Relations and Strategic Partnerships to celebrate American Education Week. During this event, members of the community are invited to speak to students about their careers, travel and hobbies, and how their early educational experiences relate to their current lives. The Teach-In introduces students to career options they might never have considered, hobbies they might never have discovered, and activities they might never have experienced. Teach-In speakers are welcome to do any of the following via virtual format: share information about their career or hobby; conduct an activity; read a story; teach a lesson; or share how school helped them achieve success. PCPS will not hold in-person experiences. All presentations must be conducted virtually. This includes sessions held inside and outside the classroom.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Volunteer Application Fee

In order to volunteer and chaperone field trips, you must be an approved volunteer. We depend on our valuable school volunteers at Bethune Academy. Please apply now if you plan to attend any field trips or volunteer on campus.  Application: https://polkschoolsfl.com/getinvolved/

The price for Polk County Public Schools volunteer background checks was scheduled to increase from $25 to $40. However, the Polk County School Board has decided that the fee to cover volunteers’ background checks, as well as their badge and handbook, will remain $25 through the end of the calendar year.

Polk County Public Schools will be using more extensive volunteer background checks as part of our security measures to protect students and staff. The district will incur an additional charge for the statewide and national background checks.

Through the end of 2018, the cost to volunteers will remain $25. We are exploring other funding sources to help offset the cost of background screening for volunteers on an ongoing basis. More information will follow.
